CBD For Women: An Emerging Category

CBD – cannabidiol, a chemical derived from cannabis – has been getting a lot of buzz lately. CBD oils and products seems to be everywhere you turn.

But what is it? And how does it benefit us, women?

Let’s begin with the basic.

Our body has an endocannabinoid system (ECS), which includes tiny receptors that react to cannabis products and even produce their own cannabinoid chemicals known as endocannabinoids. These receptors wake up when we take CBD oil or edible. As the receptors become engaged, our body responds in a number of ways, such as by reducing inflammation and stopping convulsions. Our body produces its own endocannabinoids to support the ECS. However, if this balance is thrown off, our body may benefit from supplementary cannabinoids to maintain homeostasis.

CBD is non-psychoactive and contains little to no tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC; therefore it doesn’t produce the high associated with marijuana. CBD alone doesn’t get you high and CBD oil typically contains 0.3% or less which isn’t enough to get you high either.

So, why should we incorporate CBD into our daily health and wellness routine?

CBD is thought to alleviate conditions like inflammation, migraines, nausea, sleep disorders and more. There are multiple reasons and under many different circumstances that we should incorporate CBD into your lifestyle. However, for us women especially, CBD can offer specific and helpful benefits when added to our daily routine. Scientific research indicates that CBD may provide the answers to a variety of women’s health issues like anxiety, stress, hormonal imbalances, sexual performance, and sleep disorders.

Let’s take a deeper dive into some of the benefits of CBD for women’s health.

CBD in sexual wellness.

CBD oils could help boost libido by reducing some of the symptoms of anxiety. By easing stress and calming muscles, CBD may bring forth a feeling of warmth and relaxation, which can be attributed to higher libido. Therefore, taking CBD prior to sex would create a feeling of calm, relaxation and elation. When applied topically, CBD dilates our blood vessels, allowing fresh oxygenated air to flow more easily and this fresh oxygenated blood is associated with increased arousal and stimulation.

CBD and menstrual cramps.

Our body naturally releases a hormone-like substance, prostaglandins. Days before our period, our uterine lining sheds, releasing large amounts of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins constrict the blood vessels in our uterus and make its muscle layer contract which causes the pain associated with menstruation. Normally we would take Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug, as they work by inhibiting the enzyme COX-1 that is responsible for producing prostaglandins. CBD however inhibits COX-2, which gives us the anti-inflammatory and pain relieving benefits without the side effects of NSAIDs.

CBD for beauty.

CBD topical products are said to be good for our skin. Being anti-inflammatory in nature, CBD can fight acne and give us clear, smooth skin by regulating oil production of the sebaceous glands and lowering skin inflammation, which reduces breakout. CBD creams can also aid in the skin’s elasticity and delay the signs of aging, which makes them great for us women who want to look radiant and youthful over the years.

Bottom line.

Now that you know a little more about the benefits of CBD in regards to women’s health and wellness, it is important to understand that CBD and CBD products is not a one-size-fits-all solution. We should always start with a low dosage and build up to find that ‘sweet spot’ we need to get the best results.

More advanced research on the benefits of CBD is still ongoing; thus, the possibility of several more benefits are to come. Now, are you ready to jump into the world of CBD? Click here to shop the many CBD products we carry to begin your journey, and give your health the support it deserves.
